A liver and gall bladder cleanse can dramatically improve digestion. A gall bladder cleanse can reduce allergies, improve overall fat metabolism and reduce the risk of developing stones. Assisting the gall bladder can result in more energy and an increased sense of well-being.
The liver makes bile, 1 to 1½ quarts in a day. The liver is a network of channels (biliary channels) that deliver the bile to one large tube (the common bile duct). The gallbladder is attached to the common bile duct and acts as a storage reservoir for bile. Eating fat or protein triggers the gallbladder to contract itself until empty and stored bile finishes its trip down the common bile duct to the intestine.
For many people, gallstones that are forming can obstruct the biliary tubing. When the gallbladder is scanned, often nothing is seen. Typically stones are not in the gallbladder, but can be found in the channels. In addition, most are too small and not calcified a prerequisite for visibility by ultrasound.
There are varieties of gallstones, most composed of cholesterol crystals. Green gallstones get their color from a bile coating. Other stones are composites – made of many smaller ones – they regroup in the bile. At the very center of each stone is a clump of bacteria, according to scientists. It is hypothesized that a dead bit of parasite might have initiated stone formation.
As stones grow and become more numerous the pressure on the liver increases causing it to make less bile. Imagine a garden hose that was packed with marbles, much less water would flow through it, which in turn would decrease the movement of the marbles. When gallstones block the flow of bile, it is difficult for the body to break down cholesterol and blood levels may rise. Gallstones, being porous, can pick bacteria, cysts viruses and parasites that are passing through the liver. In this way “nests” of infection are formed, forever supplying the body with fresh bacteria and parasitic larva.
What is the Gall bladder?
The gallbladder is a sac-like organ located near the liver. It stores the bile produced in the liver, which aids in the digestion of fats. When a person eats, bile is released from the gallbladder into the intestine to aid in the breakdown of fats. Conditions, which slow or obstruct the flow of bile from the gallbladder, can result in gallbladder disease. These diseases can include inflammation, infection, stones, or obstruction of the gallbladder.
What is Bile?
The spleen breaks worn-out red blood cells down into bile salts and other substances. Even worn out blood cells get used. Bile salts are normal in the body when in normal amounts.
The liver removes excess bile salts and wastes and sends them to the gall bladder for storage. The liver is the body’s principal processing plant. The liver has a vast array of functions; if a scientist could grow plants to perform the functions of the liver those plants would cover 500 acres of land.
Bile is needed for three reasons:
1. It neutralizes the acid from the stomach (because bile is very alkaline).
2. It breaks down fats, so that they can be digested.
3. It is a natural laxative for the colon.
Bile is essential in the digestion of fats. When you eat a meal with fat, the gall bladder releases a LARGE amount of bile to digest it. When one has gall bladder surgery the body has nowhere to store bile. It leaks continually and when a large amount is needed to digest a fatty meal, there is not enough bile available for completed digestion.
What are gallstones?
Stones can form anywhere in the body where there is a liquid containing mineral salts that can be crystallized and where the fluid is held for a while in a hollow organ, such as the gall bladder.
The stones may be large or small, and sometimes grow together causing extra large stones. Small stones are often excreted along with the bile and eliminated with no problem. Larger ones, however, can become lodged in the ducts, causing gall stone colic, one of the most painful illnesses. At other times, gallstones may be silent. In autopsies, examiners often find gall bladders full of gallstones although the deceased had no complaints.
A gallstone is not a true stone. They are rather rubbery and soft. Most gallstones float. They are mostly green. The size varies from rice grains to golf ball sized. Even large gallstones will slip out easily with a gall stone cleanse.
What Symptoms might be produced if there are Gallstones?
Gallstones can cause gall bladder attacks, digestive problems and pain. Gallstones can also cause symptoms, which seem unrelated, such as gas in the stomach, intestinal gas or cramping.
When a gallstone remains lodged in the bile ducts for a long time, there can be a buildup of bile. This can result in jaundice, as the skin turns yellow. Gallstones are more likely to grow where there are high levels of cholesterol. Cholesistyisis is inflammation and possible infection of the gall bladder, caused by a blockage.
When ducts get blocked with gallstones, the bile must still get into the small intestine. It may take another route, end up in the pancreas and by that route go to the small intestine. The problem with this new pathway is that the bile irritates the pancreas. When the pancreas is irritated, it produces insulin. This can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and other blood sugar imbalances that increase the risk of diabetes.
The Liver/ Gall Bladder flush
Avoid the following foods:
Alcohol, Caffeine, Processed foods, Animal products, processed sugars, Grains, Carrots, Corn, Dates, Banana, Solid foods and Nuts (use flax, pumpkin or sesame seeds)
Day 1 through 5
Blend one to two meals a day- smoothies or energy soup. Drink as much water, vegetable juice; detox tea or electrolyte lemonade (see recipe) as needed.
Liver lemonade recipe
3 organic peeled lemons
5 Tablespoons cold pressed oil- flax, olive, and hemp
1 apple
¼ Tablespoons Celtic sea salt
Stevia or raw honey to taste
Fill blender with water and blend
Take your supplements
Triphala – laxative – as needed – if you are not having at least 2 bowel movements daily take the Triphala in the recommended dosage- if you are having more than three bowel movements daily don’t use the laxative.
Ortho Phosphoric Acid-aids in the softening of stones- 1/2 dropper three times a day in 4 ounces of water
Magnesium Malate- helps to dissolve stones- 2 tablets 3 times a day with water
Omegazymes Enzymes- helps to dissolve fats- take two tablets 3 times a day
Castor Oil packs daily
Castor oil packs have been used for all types of problems involving lymph flow, such as:
- Inflammation
- Congestion
- Constipation
- Liver, kidney, and pelvic disorders
The function of the packs is to improve blood flow. Apply to the lower abdomen daily for 30-60 minutes. The packs are made by saturating cotton flannel, folded four-ply, with cold-pressed castor oil (cloth should not be dripping). The oil and flannel can be purchased at a health food store.
The oil-saturated flannel is then placed directly on the skin of the lower abdomen and covered with a piece of plastic, such as a plastic bag. Heat, in the form of a hot water bottle is then applied over the pack. A blanket or towel can be placed over the heat source to keep everything in place.
Recline with this on the lower abdomen for sixty minutes. Studies on castor oil packs done at the George Washington School of Medicine indicate that they improve immune system functioning. The flannel can be stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator and used over again. Add extra castor oil as needed.
Day 6
Morning smoothie
For the rest of the day- drink only electrolyte lemonade, water, herb tea or veggie juice until the olive oil and lemon is taken.
Sometime after 2 pm prepare two glasses- one with 8 ounces of olive oil and one with 8 ounces of fresh squeezed organic lemon juice- alternate sipping the oil and the lemon juice- lie down on you right side- plan to stay home for the evening-apply a castor oil pack. You can massage the gallbladder and liver from the right to the center and down. In 8 to 16 hours you will begin to pass the stones in your bowel movements. You can catch the stones by eliminating into a colander and rinsing the feces off with water while holding the colander over the toilet. It sounds gross, but it is interesting to see the results. The stones are generally jade green, dark green or yellowish green and can vary in size and texture.
Digestive teas to settle the stomach- peppermint and ginger tea with cayenne are comforting
Optional coffee enema before bed- ¼ cup of organic coffee soaked in 2 quarts of water overnight- strain – do warm water enema (see optional instructions) or colonic before the coffee enema- place the strained two quarts of coffee in the enema bag- try to hold for 12 – 20 minutes then release.
Day 7
Continue on the program as on days 1 through 5 – you can have three blended meals on this day. You do not need to continue doing the supplements. Have a relaxing day; most of the stones should pass in the morning or early afternoon.
Day 8- breaking the Cleanse if you choose or continue
Break the cleanse with a dark green leafy salad for lunch – remember to chew food thoughtfully and try not to overeat
Day 8 Continue the Cleanse
Follow the program as for the first 5 days then on day 12 drink the olive oil and lemon juice only this time use 4 ounces of olive oil and 4 ounces of lemon juice. This will help further cleanse the liver and help eliminate more stones.
Day 8 through 12
Blend one to two meals a day- smoothies or energy soup. Drink as much water, vegetable juice, detox tea or electrolyte lemonade (see recipe) as needed.

Day 13
Continue on the program as it is on days 8 through 12 – you can have three blended meals on this day. There is no need to continue the supplements. Have a relaxing day; most of the stones should pass in the morning or early afternoon. Break the cleanse with a dark green leafy salad for lunch – remember to chew food thoughtfully and try not to overeat.
Day 14 Breaking the cleanse
Break the cleanse with a dark green leafy salad for lunch – remember to chew food thoughtfully and try not to overeat
Optional Enema Instructions
An enema can be done in the privacy of your own bathroom. To begin, you will need to get an enema bag and hose. The hose usually comes with the bucket or bag and should be 3-4 feet long. At the end of the hose you will need to attach a catheter tube. These are generally white and 2-3 inches long. This is the part that enters your rectum. You will need some lubricant for the tube to allow it to slide in easily. Any lubricating oil that is edible, like olive oil or flax oil is recommended. Do not use petroleum jellies they are caustic and can burn the rectal tissue.
To further aid the detoxification process you may want to place a heating pad or a hot water bottle over the liver area. You can do this for 15 minutes before your enema. Lie on your back, relax and breathe.
You will be using distilled or filtered water for your enemas as the water in your tap contains harmful chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride and heavy metals. Distilled water is preferred, because it draws out the toxins. You want the temperature of the water to be about the same temperature as your body (98.6F degrees). Warm the water up on the stove in a stainless steel pot, checking the temperature of the water with your finger. When it is too hot for your finger you know it is too hot for your colon.
Fill the bag or bucket with the warm water. Position the bag or bucket about 3-4 feet high. On the hose coming out of the bucket you will find a clip to help you stop the flow of water. Spread a towel on the floor to lie on. If you are worried about making a mess (and it happens to the best of us) you can put some plastic over the towel. Make the experience as pleasant as possible. Turn off the phone, put a do not disturb sign on the bathroom door, light some candles, burn some incense, play some soft music and relax. This is your time.
To make the enemas easier each step of the process is numbered:
1) Position yourself, lying on your left side.
2) Open the clip on the catheter to release air. Lubricate the catheter tip.
3) Lubricate your anus.
4) Slowly, insert the lubricated catheter tip up to 3 inches.
5) Take a breath.
6) Open the clip and allow the water to flow (count 1-2-3). *Sometimes, it is necessary to adjust the catheter to assure flow. Then close the clip.
7) Gently massage the left side of your abdomen.
8) Insert the catheter a little deeper and open the clip (count 1-10). Then close the clip.
9) Again, gently massage the left side of the abdomen, breath and relax.
10) Open the clip until the bag has emptied or until the feeling of fullness.
11) Close the clip and continue to breathe and massage your abdomen.
12) While lying hold for 5 minutes. If it becomes uncomfortable move to the toilet and release.
13) Stay on the toilet until the fluid is released (be patient with yourself, it may come in waves).
